Pleasant memories can be a source of personal strength; but to anchor yourself too much in the past, especially when your mood is anxious or regretful, can hold you back from achieving your goals. Try this exercise to help you put your worries behind you.

  1. Find a quiet place to sit comfortably, eyes closed. Imagine yourself as a bird taking flight. You soar majestically, high above the earth.
  2. While hovering in the sky, look down at the scene below. There are streets and buildings and people rushing around. Fly higher still and these things become very small. They shrink until they are merely dots in the distance.
  3. Visualise your regrets and your painful experiences as specks of dust floating far, far away, and scattered on the wind. When you’re ready, take a deep breath and open your eyes to new possibilities.
